20th Anniversary - Ted Nugent / Bad Company Tour - Part 3

October 20, 2016

So Weiss speaks to Jimmy at Virgin/EMI Japan and calls me back. " T D ( Jimmy Porazzo) he says he loves the record and wants to have you re-record the record under their Label. I think this a bad idea and told him no." As you can imagine I am bewildered as none of this makes a lot of sense. they love the record but want me to re-record it? " If you re-record the Album," Weiss continues " they then will own the Masters. I told them the Record sounds great as is, the performances are great and we will License the record to them but they are not very interested in that." Record Labels in Traditional deals make all their Money or a large part of their Money in controlling the Master Recording Reels or these days Digital Masters. This way they control distribution which is why they wanted me to re-record the Album. " I am going to make some calls and I will get back to you" and he hangs up. So I have had my first label interest and I passed on it already........not sure how I feel about that to this day but I trusted Weiss as clearly he was doing what was best not what was popular. Bad Record deals are as good as no record deals at the end of the day. In the meantime I call Tony Scalia and he fills me in on what he and Weiss talked about. I think both Tony and Stevens Weiss were recording their conversations btw and I would be interested in hearing them someday. My Memory is a bit foggy so I am going to ask Pete and Tony to chime in if they want to. End part 3
